Eknath Shashthi marks the death anniversary (Sanjeevan Jal Samadhi) of Sant Eknath Maharaj, a highly revered Bhakti saint of Maharashtra. On this day in 1599 CE, at the age of 72, he voluntarily entered the waters of the Godavari River in Paithan while chanting the name of Lord Vitthal.
