Traditionally, the Vat Savitri Vrat is strictly observed by married women (सुहागिन स्त्रियां) for the long life and well-being of their husbands. However, in some regions, unmarried girls may also pray to the Banyan tree seeking the blessing of a good and loving life partner in the future.

This is a very auspicious coincidence called "Shani Pradosh" (if Saturday) or "Ravi Pradosh" (if Sunday). Since it is Sunday, it is Ravi Pradosh combined with Mahashivratri. Worshipping Shiva today brings Good Health, Reputation (Sun), and Spiritual Growth (Shiva).
