Married women dress in auspicious traditional attire (usually red or yellow), apply vermilion (sindoor), and visit a Banyan tree. They offer water, flowers, sweets, and soaked black chickpeas (chana) to the tree. The most important ritual involves tying a sacred red or yellow cotton thread (Kalawa/Kaccha Sut) around the trunk of the Banyan tree while circumambulating (Parikrama) it either 3, 7, or 108 times, praying for their husband's long life.
