Born as Prince Vardhamana in 599 BCE in Kundagrama (present-day Bihar), Lord Mahavir was the 24th and last Tirthankara (spiritual teacher) of Jainism. He renounced his royal life at age 30, underwent 12 years of severe asceticism, attained omniscience (Kevala Jnana), and spent his life preaching non-violence and truth.
