Somvati Amavasya is a highly auspicious Hindu observance that occurs when the Amavasya Tithi (New Moon day) coincides with a Monday (Somvar). Because Monday is the day of Lord Shiva and the Moon, and Amavasya is dedicated to ancestors, this day is incredibly powerful for spiritual cleansing and Pitru Tarpan.
